Planetary alignments, or "parades," occur when multiple planets gather in the same region of the sky from Earth's perspective. In February 2026, a remarkable six-planet alignment will take place. While Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn will be bright enough to see without equipment, Neptune will require binoculars. This event is not just a visual spectacle; it provides a unique "gravity map" of our solar system. Astronomers use these alignments to refine orbital models and study the "apparent proximity" of these bodies. The alignment is an illusion of perspective—in reality, the planets remain millions of miles apart—but it offers a rare opportunity for amateur stargazers to identify the entire "inner and outer family" of our sun in a single viewing session.
