Farsight Press January First Day of the Sun 2017

"In Greek mythology, Elpis ἐλπίς was the personification & spirit of hope
(hope was usually seen as an extension to suffering by the Greek, not as a god),
She was depicted as a young woman, usually carrying flowers
or cornucopia in her hands.  In Hesiod's Works and Days, Elpis was the last item in Pandora's box. Based on Hesiod's description, the debate is still alive to determine if Elpis was only hope, or more generally expectation. Her Roman equivalent was Spes.
In Ancient Roman religion, Spes was the goddess of hope. Multiple temples to Spes are known & inscriptions indicate that she received private devotion as well as state cult. Spes was one of the divine personifications in the Imperial cult of the Virtues. Spes Augusta was Hope associated with the capacity of the emperor as Augustus to ensure blessed conditions. Like Salus ("Salvation, Security"),
Ops ("Abundance, Prosperity")& Victoria ("Victory"),
Spes was a power that had to come from the gods,
in contrast to divine powers that resided within the individual such as
Mens ("Intelligence"), Virtus ("Virtue")
& Fides ("Faith, Fidelity, Trustworthiness").
Hope (lat. spes) is one of the three theological virtues in Christian tradition. Hope being a combination of the desire for something & expectation of receiving it, the virtue is hoping for Divine union & so eternal happiness. Like all virtues, it arises from the will, not the passions. “The Christian who hopes seeks God for himself or herself. In technical language, the formal object of theological hope is God-as-possessed.” Hope is opposed to the sins of despair & presumption; refraining from them is adhering to the negative precept of hope. The positive precept is required when exercising some duties, as in prayer or penance. Some forms of Quietism have denied that a human being should desire anything whatsoever to such an extent that they denied that hope was a virtue. ..." -- G.Murphy

Mälardalen University + with close cooperation with the surrounding community

Mälardalen University (abbreviated MDH) is one of Sweden’s large institutes of higher education. The University has over 14,000 students studying our 52 programmes and 1,000 courses, and almost 900 faculty and staff. MDH is characterised by close partnerships with businesses and the public sector in the region, making our University attractive to students - and our students attractive on the labour market. MDH was founded in 1977 to meet the region´s need for research and education. The University is situated in the densely populated and expansive region around Lake Mälaren, about one hour by train from Stockholm and Uppsala. The University is characterised by its close cooperation with companies and with the public sector in the region and by its distinct environmental profile. Mälardalen University conducts education that leads to employment and invests in research which generates beneficial solutions for societal development. MDH, with its campuses in Eskilstuna and Västerås, is a central driving force in the region. Thanks to our close partnerships with international companies such as ABB, Volvo and Bombardier and HEIs all around the world, we offer an international study and working environment.

Object-relational mapping (ORMO/RM, and O/R mapping tool) in computer science is a programming technique for converting data between incompatible type systems in object-oriented programming languages. This creates, in effect, a "virtual object database" that can be used from within the programming language. There are both free and commercial packages available that perform object-relational mapping, although some programmers opt to construct their own ORM tools. In object-oriented programmingdata-management tasks act on object-oriented (OO) objects that are almost always non-scalar values. For example, consider an address book entry that represents a single person along with zero or more phone numbers and zero or more addresses. This could be modeled in an object-oriented implementation by a "Person object" with attributes/fields to hold each data item that the entry comprises: the person's name, a list of phone numbers, and a list of addresses. The list of phone numbers would itself contain "PhoneNumber objects" and so on. The address-book entry is treated as a single object by the programming language (it can be referenced by a single variable containing a pointer to the object, for instance). Various methods can be associated with the object, such as a method to return the preferred phone number, the home address, and so on. However, many popular database products such as SQL database management systems (DBMS) can only store and manipulate scalar values such as integers and strings organized within tables. The programmer must either convert the object values into groups of simpler values for storage in the database (and convert them back upon retrieval), or only use simple scalar values within the program. Object-relational mapping implements the first approach. The heart of the problem involves translating the logical representation of the objects into an atomized form that is capable of being stored in the database, while preserving the properties of the objects and their relationships so that they can be reloaded as objects when needed. If this storage and retrieval functionality is implemented, the objects are said to be persistent. :::: Read more @Ätät@ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Object-relational_mapping
Agile software development
describes a set of principles
for software development under which requirements and solutions evolve through the collaborative effort of self-organizing
It advocates adaptive planning, evolutionary development, early delivery, and continuous improvement, and it encourages rapid and flexible response to change.

These principles support the definition and continuing evolution of many software development methods.

The term agile was first coined for this in 2001, in the
Manifesto for Agile Software Development
(Agile Manifesto), and although originally
written as Agile (with a capital A)
this is progressively becoming deprecated.
Scrum is an iterative and incremental agile software development framework for managing product development. It defines "a flexible, holistic product development strategy where a development team works as a unit to reach a common goal", challenges assumptions of the "traditional, sequential approach" to product development, and enables teams to self-organize by encouraging physical co-location or close online collaboration of all team members, as well as daily face-to-face communication among all team members and disciplines involved. A key principle of Scrum is its recognition that during product development, the customers can change their minds about what they want and need (often called requirements volatility), and that unpredicted challenges cannot be easily addressed in a traditional predictive or planned manner. As such, Scrum adopts an evidence-based empirical approach—accepting that the problem cannot be fully understood or defined, focusing instead on maximizing the team's ability to deliver quickly, to respond to emerging requirements and to adapt to evolving technologies and changes in market conditions.

web framework (WF) or web application framework (WAF) is a software framework that is designed to support the development of web applications including web servicesweb resources and web APIs. Web frameworks aim to alleviate the overhead associated with common activities performed in web development. For example, many web frameworks provide libraries for database access, templating frameworks and session management, and they often promote code reuse. Though they often target development of dynamic websites they are also applicable to static websites. :::: Read more @ÄTät@ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_framework
Django is a free and open-source web framework, written in Python, which follows the model-view-template (MVT) architectural pattern. It is maintained by the Django Software Foundation (DSF), an independent organization established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Django's primary goal is to ease the creation of complex, database-driven websites. Django emphasizes reusability and "pluggability" of components, rapid development, and the principle of don't repeat yourself. Python is used throughout, even for settings files and data models. Django also provides an optional administrative create, read, update and delete interface that is generated dynamically through introspection and configured via admin models. Some well-known sites that use Django include the Public Broadcasting ServicePinterestInstagramMozillaThe Washington TimesDisqusBitbucket, and Nextdoor. :::: Read more @ÄTät@ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Django_(web_framework)
